At least eight cases of tuberculosis have been identified in Grand Forks County– but others are under review. The latest confirmed case involves a student at Phoenix Elementary School. Grand Forks school officials have notified parents in the district about the case of TB. next week health officials will begin testing students who had close contact with the child who was under the age of ten. Superintendent Dr-Larry Nybladh says between 25 and 30 students will be screened. Grand Forks Health Director Don Shields says TB cannot be transmitted through casual contact. Health officials note the testing of students on Tuesday is simply a precautionary move. There are approximately 240 students and another 60 full and part-time staff at Phoenix. The eight additional cases since September bring to ten the number identified in the Grand Forks region since March.
