The Grand Forks City Council is looking to set up a series of meetings to further discuss the findings of a Blue Ribbon Commission on Housing.  City Council President Hal Gershman says he would like to have a plan in place as soon as April first.  The commission spent three months talking about housing in Grand Forks and how to strengthen it.  Commission Co-chair Dana Sande says in some cases developers aren’t reaping the benefits of economy of scale.   Councilman Doug Christensen says land near the proposed north side Walmart and adjacent to a new south side school could provide new opportunities for developers.  To highlight how tight the housing situation is Sande says he’s been told there are currently seven home sales pending in Greater Grand Forks leaving just 39 on the market.   By comparison the Fargo-Moorhead and West Fargo area has 15-hundred houses up for sale.
