A Blue Ribbon Commission examining housing needs in Grand Forks has released a draft report. The group has posted the findings online in an effort to elicit public input prior to a final meeting January 9th. The recommendations range from more flexible zoning and aggressive annexation to more senior housing options… financing methods…and an improved enforcement of renters rights and repairs. The report follows more than three months of discussions to combat the city’s housing crunch and escalating costs. Committee Chair Mike Bergeron says the goal is to improve the efficiency of systems by leveraging partnerships. He says the market and the private sectors drive housing. The draft priorities are listed on www.engagetheforks.com.
